Description
*
The Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) established seven Subsistence Resource Commissions (SRC). There is one SRC for each National Park or Park Monument where subsistence hunting and fishing is allowed to occur under ANILCA. Each commission consists of 9 members: 3 appointed by the Governor of Alaska, 3 appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, 3 appointed by the Federal Subsistence Regional Advisory Councils. Members should represent the interests of the subsistence users of the park or monument. Members serve at the pleasure of their appointing source. Only the 21 members appointed by the Governor appear on the roster. The seven SRCs are as follows: Aniakchak National Monument [Sec 201(1)] Cape Krusenstern National Monument [Sec 201(3)] Gates of the Arctic National Park [Sec. 201(4)(a)] Kobuk Valley National Park [Sec 201(6)] Lake Clark National Park [Sec 201(7)(a)] Wrangell-Saint Elias National Park [Sec 201(9)] Mount McKinley National Park [Sec 202(3)(a)]
Function
*
Each commission will devise and recommend to the Governor and the Secretary of the Interior a program for subsistence hunting and fishing within the park or park monument. A commission may make subsistence hunting and fishing program recommendations regarding issues as diverse as: eligibility; customary and traditional determinations; subsistence research; subsistence access; changes in subsistence taking regulations regarding seasons, bag limits, and methods and means; and impacts to subsistence caused by development projects.
